In February of last year, Sam Nordquist, a trans man from Minnesota was found murdered in a field in Yates county, NY, just ninety minutes from Buffalo. He was apparently lured to Hopewell NY under false pretenses of a relationship and then tortured in a motel room with, “unspeakable cruelty” for over a month. The trial of the seven defendants has been scheduled for September of this year. While our thoughts are with Sam’s family and those that loved him, our eyes will be on the trial this fall to demand justice. It breaks our hearts that Sam was alone in this unfathomable nightmare. It’s a lesson in how, now more than ever, we need to act more like a community, consider risks, and watch out for each other.
